Howdy guys, it's been a while! I know it because I actually skipped one profile when flying to Shanghai last time. That was because my buddy happened to be a middle-aged-ish (I'm certainly no expert in Asian people's age) Chinese guy who didn't as much as say two words to me the entire trip, but rather concentrated on sleeping. Fortunately, on my return trip we get two for the price of one!

Clementine, one of the best-written characters in recent gaming history?
Disclaimer: What follows is a detailed reflection on Telltale's video game The Walking Dead, seasons one and two. As such, spoilers on both seasons will obviously be abundant, so those of you who still haven't played those games but plan to enjoy them, please don't let me ruin them for you.
I finished the second season of Telltale's The Walking Dead adventure game series a week ago, but it took some time to arrange my thoughts in a coherent manner and actually have them produced in writing. This is not a review of the game but more a reflection of my journey, the experience going through the story, and I will also focus on one central character in both seasons, the little girl Clementine.
First of all, I played both seasons after they were released in entirety, which means I was able to play through each season in a relatively short span of time, just a few days (a week, tops) between episodes. As such, I believe I was able to form a more general overview of the season's story arc, instead of playing the within-season episodes one-by-one as they were released, often months apart from each other, possibly leading to a more disjointed experience.

Seat Buddy Profiles: Meet Helena
First of all, just a few paragraphs about the five years between 2009 and now (2014), to whomever still reads this and doesn't know me. During my 2009 trip to China, I met my then-girlfriend, who now is my lovely wife. I also met the then-Consul General of Finland in Shanghai who became my first summer traineeship employer (I did return to Shanghai in 2010 to work in the Finnish Consulate during the Expo 2010 summer). He went on to become Ambassador of Finland in Seoul, Korea and we still keep in touch.
From that summer on, it was a real roller-coaster of years to me. Our film that we worked on during 2008 and 2009 was released in Finland following the participation to Shanghai International Film Festival and was a huge success. I was asked to join Rovio, a small budding Finnish company who made the hugely successful game and entertainment franchise "Angry Birds." Not so small anymore. I helped the company globalize to Asia, being one of the co-founders of our Shanghai office in 2012. We got married the same year.
Since then, I've been traveling extensively back and forth between China and Finland, and it was during my latest flight that I decided to write about the different stories of my "Seat Buddies," i.e. random people sitting beside me on the flight. This is one of the first such profile. Please meet Helena, a Swedish silk and fabric trader-on-air.

Pilven ja veden balladi
Rakkaat lukijat (eli kaikki noin kolme lukijaa),
Pahoittelut tosi pitkästä tauosta! Tässä välissä vaihdoin kaupunkia Hangzhouhun (joka on siis kuitenkin noin puolentoista tunnin junamatkan päässä Shanghaista eli lähellä) ja toiseen harjoittelupaikkaan. Tämä paikka on kuitenkin huomattavasti parempi kuin Shanghain, sillä pääsen tekemään videoita - asia, jota rakastan.
Sen lisäksi, että päiväni ovat olleet täynnä mahtavia videohommia, on Kiinan internet-tilanne muuttunut jälleen kerran huonompaan. Jo aikaisemmin Blogspot oli blokattu, mutta nyt viimeaikaisten tapahtumien myötä myös Facebook (jonka kautta aikaisemmin lähetin tekstini blogiini) on blokattu.
Mutta tämä politiikasta, en jaksa jauhaa aiheesta jota en tunne eikä minulla ole sanottavaa. Elokuviin!

Sen nimi on The Knot eli Solmu, vaikka alkuperäinen elokuvan nimi kääntyisi jotakuinkin "Pilven ja veden balladi" - kuvaa siis kahden rakastavaisen, Qiushuin (syksyn vesi) sekä Biyunin (jadenvärinen pilvi) halki ajan ja paikan kestävää tarinaa.

Kiinalainen elokuva
Otsikko on tietenkin harhaanjohtava, sillä mitään yksittäistä kiinalaisen elokuvan prototyyppiä ei tietenkään ole olemassa. Sen sijaan elokuvafestivaaleilla kerkesin näkemään muutama suhteellisen uutta elokuvaa, joista yhden käsittelin jo edellisessä postauksessa.
The Journey Away on uunituore, kiinalainen, independent-, road-trip (ja mitä muita kuvauksia keksisin tähän) -elokuva, vieläpä nuorelta ohjaajalta, taisi olla 82 tai 83 syntynyt. Elokuva alkaa itäisestä rannikkokaupungista, jossa selkeästi ympäristöönsä sopeutumaton ja kapinallinen nuorukainen esitetään katsojalle. Erinäisten tapahtumien seurauksena tämä nuorukainen päättää lähteä syvälle länteen, etsiskelemään juuriaan. Mukaan tuppautuu hänen harmikseen mukaan myös hänen eskari-ikäinen siskopuolensa.
